Write With Me (Because I'm Stuck)
Into the woods, then. Who's with me?
I was almost late for school pick up today. Not just because while I was trying to find footwear suitable for this crappy weather, I discovered that one half of my favourite pair of boots had a nail through the sole (seriously, how didn’t I notice this while wearing them?) but because I had a LIGHTBULB moment.
I’m going to run a write-along for the rest of March.
This thought just popped into my mind. And my first instinct was to reply -- Yes. Yes I am.
I’ll be honest here, this is as much for me as for you: I’m stuck on a project and I and can’t even get to the page. Eek. It’s not writers’ block, it’s a bitter cocktail of PDA, procrastination and fatigue. Maybe you’ve come across some of this before too.
I am weary of getting in my own way, so I’m going to softly tiptoe around myself and get back to the book idea that’s been occupying my mind for so long.
Low Demand
So, it’s going to be a write-along with gentle accountability, the odd pep talk from me (that will also be for me) and maybe some occasional lives co-writing sessions. A hastily convened writing community, for March. We’ll use Chat here to update with as much detail as we feel happy sharing. There is zero completion — or competition, which is what I meant to say, but both apply.
You Define Your Writing Success
My goal is to be back in my story land by the end of the month, with some words down. Shitty words are fine, in fact are probably mandatory. But hey, the springy weather we had at the start of this week is making me think it’s time to start growing again. Because I feel better when I’m writing, because that’s how I make my world make sense, as much as it can at the moment.
Your goal might be to publish a Substack essay, to redraft a scene of your novel, to outline a chapter of your book proposal. Whatever make sense for you, with your time commitments and energy levels. It’s brave to show up even once.
Open to free and paid subscribers, and we’ll start Monday. Unless I start before that, but I definitely want to be writing by Monday. Yes? Yes.
I would love your company.
Happy writing,
Gail
